Start Training Months Ahead
Approximately 6+ months prior to your trip is when you need to initiate a full overhaul, physical training schedule. You need to add aerobic fitness an hour a day, five days a week. Implement strength training. Prepare your muscles to reach the point of exertion without injury. For when you trek, the muscle exertion may occur on a daily basis, and by prepping the muscles, you are decreasing the odds of injury from happening. On the other hand, do not over train. It may sound like a contradiction, but it is not. For you are not climbing Everest, you are aiming to trek Everest. Thus, maintain a healthy diet, ample sleep, and keep your body moving without experiencing fatigue. It is the goal of the preparation to ensure your muscles and body stay refreshed giving you the best advantage when you begin your trek. As a result, you will not fade away throughout the trip. You are giving yourself every advantage to reach your trekking goals.
Break in the Boots
The hiking boots make or break your trip. Hence, start breaking in your boots a little after the start of training. Wear the boots at least 20 miles before setting out on a Himalayan trek. Wear them daily. You need to prevent blisters from occurring on your trek. For there is nothing worse than being grounded due to blister pain from new boots. In addition, bring moisture absorbing hiking socks. It will contribute to the comfort level rather than regular cotton socks. It may sound seemingly insignificant, but when experiencing a trekking adventure, every little bit of comfort helps.
Use Your Backpack
Fill your backpack up with necessary gear and start carrying it while training. This is the smart way to simulate what it shall be like to carry added weight during the trek. You need to practice training with the extra weight eliminating any surprises on your trip. It is hard enough to train, exercise, trek, walk, endure in physical activity without the backpack. Now add the backpack and it adds another necessary dimension to the training completely. Keep in mind, the more equipped your body is for the adventure, the further enjoyable it shall be for you in the end.
Seek Heights
Smart training includes searching for heights and using the elevation as part of your training regimen. It will help your body adapt to the elevation atmosphere found along treks. It is vital to aid your body in elevation instruction prior to your trip. For if you are not accustomed to elevation and the effects it may have upon your body, then your body may shut down in midst of trekking route. You need to address this in your physical training and prepare accordingly.
